
Place: Semuc Champey National Monument,
Guatemala
Location: In the Alta Verapaz region of
Guatemala, approximately 10 kilometers west of the small town of Lanquin.
Description: Semuc Champey is a series of
emerald green pools forming along the Cohoban river as it makes its way
through the dense green jungles of Guatemala. The pools form in
limestone formations and range between three and fourteen feet deep.
The river is truly unique. Rich in plant and animal diversity,
the geology of the limestone pools create a natural wonder that is worth
the long journey to witness. The climate is sub-tropical and hot.
The languages spoken in the area are Maya Q'eqchi and Spanish.
